Whatever it may have looked like that copy I had (still have somewhere, rather battered) when he and Pat visited Aberystwyth was my very own bought shortly after I left Cambridge. Imitation is not original (I never was very) but it is the sincerest form of flattery. I learned a lot from Alan and my other friends at Clare, and needed to because callow isn't in it recalling my temperament there. He would have been surprised at if he knew that certain of my students in the 1970s thought that I was a Marxist. Never was, deny it strenuously!
